ABOUT

Relaxation - Tranquillity - Nature

There is a place where all these wonderful things come together in one. On the coast of Almeria you will find our house tucked away at the foot of a hill and surrounded by the protected Mediterranean landscape of the Natural Park Cabo de Gata – Nijar. We are situated next to the charming white village of Rodalquilar, and close to the beach.

Our well-kept house is an oasis for adults and is designed as a retreat for a select number of guests. We pride ourselves on our service and the attention to detail in our eight apartments.

"The place to be": The panoramic terrace has meditative views of the hills or the large garden terrace in the courtyard; both are equipped with sun loungers and seating furniture.

The province of Almeria has the most sunshine hours in the whole of Spain. Due to the mild climate, it offers a wonderful stay all year round.

THINGS TO DO

Playazo de Rodalquilar

Ii is one of the most beautiful beaches in the park; located around 1.9 km from Casa Biank. Being 400 meters long and 30 wide, it is difficult not to find the ideal spot. The sand is fine and golden, the water is calm and the slope to submerge is gradual, so it has excellent swimming conditions.

One side of the beach is surrounded by mountains and on the other it is flanked by the Castillo de San Ramón, an old defensive bastion built in the 18th century, which is part of a battery of 4 cannons that defended the coastline from Cerrico Romero to San Pedro Cove. This castle was very heavily attacked during the War of Independence. It is built on a beautiful fossilized dune that has excellent views of the beach and the cliffs of La Molata. Between the dune, there is a very pretty little cove where you can take a swim more sheltered from the wind.

Cultural Sites

Rodalquilar lies at the heart of Cabo de Gata Natural Park. A charming and typical Spanish white village and a must-see for its history, its gold mines, its spectacular landscape, its beaches, its people ...

The former gold mining village is situated in a valley of unusual beauty, surrounded by a circle of mountains and mining hills. Although no longer active, you can visit the museum and take a walk through the old mines.

The Botanical Garden El Albardinal is a must for an authentic oasis experience. With 9 hectares it is home to numerous plant ecosystems, both native species like cacti, palm trees as well as other sub-tropical plants.

About 5 miles from Rodalquilar is the Cortijo del Fraile (Farmhouse of the Friar), an imposing building in a remote location, it has been used as a set for several films over the years, including the Clint Eastwood western classics “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” and “For a Few Dollars More”

Hiking / Mountain Biking

Cabo de Gata Nature Park is a paradise for hikers and mountain bikers alike.

From secluded, unspoilt coves to stunning volcanic rock formations, Cabo de Gata’s awe-inspiring landscape invites travellers to discover its entire coastline on foot or from the saddle.

Right behind Casa Biank are wonderful mountain trails that take you along the coastline down to secluded beaches with volcanic rock or up to the light house Torre de los Lobos (Tower of the Wolves). Another popular trail is along the Rambla towards El Playazo and all the way across the mountain to Las Negras fishing village.

A short drive inland takes you to Tabernas Desert Europe’s "Wild West" and only desert on the continent, with its spectacular lunar landscape it is a sight to behold.

The best time for hiking and or biking is from September all the way to May due to its mild climate.

Water Sports

KAYAK

Enjoy canoeing, discover inaccessible coves and marine life in Cabo de Gata Natural Park: this is a wonderful tourism activity that you can not afford to miss during your holidays.

SNORKELLING / DIVING

Discover the hidden secrets of the unspoilt underwater world of Cabo de Gata.

Thanks to its sandy seabed the abundance of posidonia (perennial marine plant) show off that beautiful "Caribbean style" turquoise colour so spectacularly. It provides shelter and food for a multitude of species, perhaps a reason for the great density and diversity of fish and invertebrates presents in the Park.

BOAT TRIPS

Discover the best beaches in Cabo de Gata on a relaxing boat trip. Swim in the Mediterranean’s crystalline waters and see stunning caves and cliffs.

More info on all these activities is available from our Reception

Horse Riding

The landscape of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park lends itself naturally to horseback riding and is a source of wonderment along the boundless horse riding trails.
From the coast to the mountains the ever changing scenery will surprise and delight, take a ride across a secluded beach, or an evening canter in the desert canyons, experience the mountainside tracks, and views, or gallop through the open valleys abundant with almond blossom and orange groves.

Birds Safari

In the saltworks of Cabo de Gata (or Las Salinas de La Almadraba de Monteleva) more than 100 different species of birds have been counted. 70% of which are migratory birds that use the salt flats as a resting place in their migratory journey, and the rest taking advantage of the mild winters of the area, have fixed it as their residence. One of the ornithological riches of these wetlands is the large number of Greater Flamingo, which can be observed. In the summer season, which coincides with the migratory passage, especially in late July and early August, the colony can be made up of thousands of individuals, hundreds of these birds spend the whole year in these wetlands.

Many different species can be seen here in a small area. An information board with drawings and names of the most common birds helps to identify them. Among the birds you can see here are Greater Flamingo, Kentish Plover, Northern Shoveler, Black-winged Stilt, Western Yellow Wagtail and Curlew Sandpiper and many more
